Lots of impressions but almost no engagement - why?

Hi guys, I regularly engage with content on the platform and have around 500 connections. However recently I posted my own job update, made a post about it, personalized it etc. and I was disappointed that - despite 2600+ impressions and 100+ profile views - I got less than 50 comments and likes. Most of these were from people trying to procure a job who I don't know (from India etc.) or family. Am I just unlikable, or is there something in the algorithm that I could do to boost engagement? I see people with similar stats get over 100 likes and that's what I was aiming for. FWIW, I've worked with a lot of people closely and have big names on my resume, so it's not like I'm in some obscure business and do legitimately have (what I thought was) a solid network of supporters. Overall I feel really bad about the whole thing and regret posting, it's so embarrassing when something important to you gets little engagement!
