Are there some sports anime "hidden gems" out there for someone that dont care about sports?

Dont have any interest in either sports or cars but last night while I was watching the latest episode of MF Ghost it struck me maybe there are some sports animes out there worth watching as well?

Context: I first watched initial d about 10-12ish years ago because I got really into the eurobeat music it heavily features so I gave the anime a shot, stuck around and watched the entire show though and now its one of my all time favourites even though I could not care less about cars and racing.

It really never goes that deep into technical stuff and is mostly just a anime that happens to be about downhill racing and goofy drainage ditch riding with a sick soundtrack.

Over the years there has been hubub about several sports anime that I have then looked up the name of only to be like "oh..... its one of those sports animes" and instantly lose interest and move on.

So my question is are there some good ones im missing out on like I almost missed out on initial d? Animes that are great were the sport is not really that important to the plot. Or hell if another car one comes to mind from my description by all means feel free to mention that as well.

Cheers.
