AITAH for reporting my coworker to HR?
I recently started a new job as a Nurse supervisor at an assisted living home. I'm still getting to know everyone. As the newbie, Care aides have been coming to me to tell me their experiences at work, how the real culture of the job behind the scenes really are, how the work load is heavy, how majority of the residents didn't belong there and need a higher level of care at a nursing home, the stress of dealing with rude disrespectful residents, their families, etc.
Last week another Nurse supervisor was in my office when an aide came to report she didn't have time to take a break during her 8 hour shift due to being so busy, how they need more help on the floor, the care is heavy and not really assisted living. When the aide left, the other Nurse said to me..." I'm sorry don't take this the wrong way but their acting as if they have to pick cotton or something, I mean it's making beds not picking cotton. Just do the job and shut up" Now I'm a very laid back zen chill see the glass half full type of person. I don't like confrontation, I believe in spreading love not hate. I was shocked she felt comfortable using that reference while speaking to me. She's white, I'm black and the staff she was talking about is black. So yes I reported her to HR.
Am I the Asshole?
