Is it a good idea to spay my cat with a serious neurological condition?
I found my cat on june 2nd, around 1-2 months old in the school yard where something was visibly wrong with her. She was not moving, barely keeping her head up but looking right at me. She had an eye infection as well. I took her to the vet and the vet told me it's likely for her to die that same night. They told us she most likely has a brain hematoma. In the span of a week she recovered really good and had no problems until November. On November 11th she had a generalized seizure, we took her to the vet, they gave her phenobarbital and everything was back to normal. On 4th of January she had focal seizures one after another for an hour, again, took her to the vet, they gave us a food supplement which caused diarrhea so we stopped it. in the start of February she's had minimum 3 seizures a day for the past week, my mother is extremely busy and we couldn't take her to the vet, however on Saturday the seizures got worse. She had 3 generalized and in between 2 focal seizures, immediately rushed to the vet, they gave us phenobarbital as treatment and she's been amazing ever since. A week passes, we go to a neurologist in another city since ours doesn't have a CT nor MRI. The vet performs an examination and notices that her reflexes and coordination are a bit off so they order tests, a CT scan and MRI. Scans come back, turns out it was not a hematoma at all, but when the trauma occured, her skull had a fraction and these fragments of the skull went in her brain, tore a ventricular and the scans showed that almost her whole left hemisphere is filled with cerebrospinal fluid. Vet explained that he couldn't have possibly thought of something like this since she was acting like a normal cat. The cyst pressed against her cerebellum which could explain the seizures and coordination problems. He also told us that if they operate it could be very risky considering how big the cyst is, but said he'll discuss with another neurosurgeon. For now we're still giving her phenobarbital, lowest dose ( 1/4 60mg twice per day , 7 o'clock ) She's currently in heat for the first time, she's around 9-10 months old and I don't know if it's okay to have her spayed.
