Matag top load washer agitating before filling

I have a brand new matag washer and based on the noises it was making I suspected it was starting the agitator well before the basin filled with water (water would only be added for a short amount of time before you could hear the agitator start). This was also on delicate cycle and it seemed way too fast and loud for delicate. I did the lid lock bypass so I could see what was going on and sure enough it would barely get water to the bottom of the basin before the agitator started on full blast and wound dry clothes around it. Once the washer filled (another issue because I had it on medium load and it didn’t even fill water to 1/3 of the basin so a good portion of the clothes were still dry after being wound around the agitator above the water line) the agitator at least started agitating delicately but the dry clothes were already wrapped around the agitator so it wasn’t very effective. Is this a normal cycle for matag now or is something wrong?

Based on some of the comments I’ve seen this seems normal for them now so I’m worried the warranty wont cover it but this washer will destroy our clothes if we keep using it as is. Our current solution is to bypass the lock, let the water fill and the agitator start before adding clothes but this is insane to have to do with a brand new washer.
