What's the best character to separate artists? Comma, semicolon, double slash or anything else?

Something that would be recognized universally by apple, windows and android operating systems and players.

I tried using musicbrainz and discord but they use comma to separate artists. but Internet research shows it's not the best way to do so. Is it? if not, why would these database make comma the default?
