Why did the Demogorgon take Barb in the first season?

seeing that the duffer brothers started retconning the taking of will in S1 and him then being tied up und itubated in the upside down (not in the abyss like the rest of the kids in season 5, which i also don’t get), i was left wondering why the demogorgon (or vecna) took Barb at all? she is not talked about again but was also „intubated“ and held hostage in the UD. Also her hand bleeding being the reason for the demogorgon to find her. i waited until since „no loose ends“ were promised, but i don’t think that will play a role in the last episode. does anyone have an explanation?
