Cool climate growers - try planting peas next to your bud

Fresh peas are delicious and make a nice snack when checking on your plants. If you plant them early (I plant well before last frost) they'll be dying back well before flowering stage, so you can just yank them out. They're nitrogen fixers and won't deplete your soil. A few vines on the North side of your bud won't affect their growth at all.

They do need something to climb, but otherwise take care of themselves. Seed packs are usually 25 cents at the dollar store, or $2-3 for the name brand stuff. Snap and pod peas are both great.
