Why is killing *spoiler* so “unforgivable” for Damon?

Why in season 8 does Tyler tell Damon that if he kills him, it would be the thing no one forgives him for? Like, I felt bad for him dying but I would think that it would be more that if he kills literally anyone else of the gang, they would be the unforgivable death. Just me?
