Canine Persistent Cough

Location: NorCal, Bay Area, East Bay.

Perhaps someone has experienced something similar.

Patient (Pt) is under Vet care; so recommendations to rush him to the vet are unnecessary. Happy thoughts and positive Karma much appreciated.

Pt is a 9 year old male, boxer mix.

On 20 Dec 2025 Pt underwent endoscopic procedure to remove object from his stomach.

Recovery went well with no observed side effects. (Primary Vet).

On 11-12 Jan 2026 Pt developed a cough that worsened over a period of 36 hours. Pt was taken to Vet on 13 Jan. An exam and radiograph of the thorax were done. Vet diagnosed bronchitis. and prescribed doxycycline and carprofen. (Alternate Vet as we were traveling).

At the end of the course of medication, Pt showed signs of improvement. Treating Vet said cough might linger for a few weeks.

On 7-8 Feb persistent cough worsened and Pt was taken to Vet ER (same that conducted endoscopic procedure). Exam and x-rays done. No sign of pneumonia. Vet prescribed prednisone and clindamycin.

We are on day 7 of 10 for meds. Vet recommended reassessment if cough does not improve in 5-7 days. Will be calling vet on Monday.

He's still having coughing fits.

He's eating well. Normal poops. His energy level is a bit lower, we're taking shorter walks etc.

Anyone have similar experience?

Endoscopic procedure in Dec was 15-20 days prior to onset of cough. Anyone know the likelihood that it has something to do with the cough ?
