Is sleepy boy really that RNG reliant?

Beat EVERYTHING else and it felt triumphant, stuck on Espinas. Ive followed all the guides, youtube vids, prepared by getting all traps and vitus stuff… havent gotten him past 3/4 health in my 10ish tries. Brachy felt super fun to fight since its all just memorisation, i feel like if I get 2 “very angry!” enrages im just cooked. How many tries did it take for yall?
