AITA for telling my friend there is a better way to talk about abortion which ended up with her making an islamophobic remark
I would like to apologise in advance for any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language.
tw: mention of abortion, stillborn, miscarriage
A week ago me (21f) and my group of friends went out for coffee and to catch up since we are all busy with our private lives, and it’s very rare to be all together at the same time and place. One of my friends L recently suffered a miscarriage after having a stillborn after trying for YEARS, bear with me it is important for the story, I’ve tried my best to be as supportive as possible while still giving her space to grief on her own.
L was talking about something irrelevant to the story when M cut her off to talk about recently getting an abortion by using a tiktok slang, “fuck them kids”, L was clearly bothered and uncomfortable. M did not stop there of course, but she started talking about how the father was a random man she had met during her last vacation and they did what they had to do and she ended up pregnant. I jumped in saying that was not the best way to talk about an abortion which she replied to: “You and your fuckass religion”
Mind you i’ve never even mention my religion, and i actually never do that cause why would i held non muslim people to islamic standards? Plus islam has way better law about abortion than the United states.
But most our friends (except for L who distanced herself from almost everyone) said that i should apologise because M had the right to talk about her abortion the way she wants. So reddit, am i the problem here?
