How do I make "friends" in game? 😭

Sorry for my dumb question, every time I send a request to a player they reject it and Im wondering If there's a way to add ppl without being awkward?

I simply want friends to level up the friendship thingy, not to talk unless the person wants ofc!

Id be so thankful for any tips!
