losing family members over decision to become a social worker

The title says it really. I’m quite deflated, as my whole life I’ve been a people pleaser and when I do something that others disagree with , they are so harsh with their stance

This includes my own mother’s mother in law, sister in laws etc. my husband is supportive. I told my mother in law today and she was really awkward and silent and made me feel so uncomfortable.

Anyone else felt this? I’m not so much upset just angry at how they can have opinions when I have never said anything about their careers.
