VR bad performance due to linux?
Hello,
I wanted to try out VR in elite dangerous now that I got a new gpu and switched to an arch based linux system. I got pretty good hardware (which i will list down below) and was expecting that the jump from 8 to 16gb vram would allow me for a fairly fluid VR experience. Unfortunately it does not, at least not with big compromises to the overall image.
I've tested several graphics settings and my optimal settings came down to this:
Everything set to medium, screen resolution set to as low as possible, HMD quality to 1.25x, aa off. The HMD mode should be that HMD Headphone mode. I tested through most of them and non of the others improved it. My resolution in steam vr is set to the base resolution of the valve Index.
With those settings i could play reasonably well but it's still laggy, with lots of ghosting and I'm not sure why. My valve index doesn't have the highest resolution in the world and my system should also be up to date. I'm now considering to install the game on my windows boot just to test if the performance will be better. VR in itself can be wonky and VR on linux especially is.
But before i do that I wanted to ask if anyone has ever noticed performance issues with VR on linux or if you have similar hardware then whether the game runs better or not on windows. Your help would be much appreciated.
My specs:
Gpu: rx9070 XT 16GB
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000mhz
Harddrive: 2Tb NVME
OS: CachyOS
