Please Explain it to me like I’m 5…

Ok so, I have a switch and my husband has a switch 2. I have started playing animal crossing on my account but on his switch 2. If he wants to play his switch, can I access my island from my switch? I do have an online account. Nothing is loaded on my switch and I’m worried if I start the game on that switch, it will delete the island on his switch.

I had an island on a switch lite. When he got a switch 2, he gave me his old switch to replace my lite. I loaded the game on his switch in anticipation of the new update and it started me from scratch and that old island is gone off the switch lite and so I am worried to try this with my switch. I know this may be dumb but googling it is just confusing me and I appreciate any and all advice lol. Thanks in advance!!!
