Daenerys Stormborn, Mother of Dragons and blah blah blah… 🐉
I need to get this off my chest because I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe every time people talk about Daenerys.
On my first watch (and even the first couple rewatches), I actually warmed to her. But on this current rewatch and watch it all in one go hits different. She’s so entitled and relies on fear that people gloss over because she has a cool vibe and dragons. From early on, it’s like she genuinely believes the world owes her the throne and that people should fall in line because it’s her “birthright,” but nothing is owed to her, NOTHING!
And the way she builds power is always framed as righteous, but it’s often coercion. She declares herself a liberator, then dictates over every place she “frees,” and any time someone challenges her, she jumps straight to burning or beheading! Like girl be so for real!
Even before Season 7–8 fast-tracked it, the warning signs were always there, the cold stares and disassociating when she murdered people (Viserys Varys (yeah I know she didn’t murder him technically), The Witch, The Masters, the guy selling the unsullied, the people that didn’t bow). Shes high key a sociopath!
What’s wild is how people judge the other women in the show as if Daenerys is uniquely pure. Cersei is consistent, Sansa is consistent, Arya is consistent, Yara is consistent, you can love or hate them, but they are consistent and I respect that! Whereas Ms 100 different names comes in all high and mighty and I just think she’s a massive…
I’m probably alone on this…
