First time watching season one

I became a fan between sessions two and three (binged all of season 2 and watched season 3 as it aired). I’m lukewarm about season 4 cause it’s becoming too predictable the last couple episodes about the outcome. I’m now watching season one and now at the end, can someone explain Arie’s decision? It makes NO SENSE!!!
