The modern dealership experience is a fever dream
I need to vent for a second because the current process to buy car in 2026 feels like a psychological experiment designed to test my breaking point. I started my search with so much excitement, but that was quickly replaced by exasperation. Why is every available vehicle on the website actually in transit, and why does every no-haggle price include four thousand dollars in protection packages that I never asked for? It’s a build-up of specific frustrations that makes me want to ride a bike forever.
I actually spent an afternoon looking at direct-to-consumer shipping from Alibaba just to see if I could import a small electric city car and bypass the dealership circus entirely. I’m at that stage where I’m using self-deprecating humor to describe my weekend spent in windowless offices talking to finance managers. I’ve reached a point of total resignation. I honestly just want a reliable commuter without having to sign away my firstborn or endure a three-hour lecture on ceramic coating.
Is it just me, or has the simple act of purchasing a vehicle become a convoluted mess of hidden fees and artificial scarcity? I’m genuinely curious if anyone has actually had a pleasant experience lately, or if we’re all just collectively suffering through this bizarre market together.
