Anyone have experience with spiny mice?

My local pet store has spiny mice, and they are so interesting and cute! They are surprisingly docile and sweet.

This is more of a pondering than an actual plan, but I thought it was worth asking. I’ve been thinking about getting ASFs for Ricky. Would a pair of spiny mice work similarly? I’m not a huge fan of ASFs having had them before.

From the research I’ve done, it looks like spiny mice are actually known for being pro-social. Males can live together, for example. They also can’t breed with fancies. I was worried about the quills but from what I’ve read they’re not sharp. Idk, is it crazy?

Especially interested in perspectives from people with spiny mice! Has anyone cohabitated them with fancies?
