GENUINE QUESTION : IF THERE IS A LOVING GOD, THEN WHY IS THE WORLD IN SO MUCH PAIN AND EVILNESS ?. ( hold on, hear me out)
Note: English isn't my native language!
I am a christian visibly deconstructing, and this is one of the numerous questions I've been asking myself. Many religious people, mostly blinded by their own beliefs and subjectivity, treat such a serious question as non-sense or illogical. They often try to debunk this question when it's asked, yet, everyone I've seen try to do it,.. kinda failed miserably by throwing half-backed arguments with no back up or double check.
I would like to add that I am not, in any way, asking that question out of pride. I am genuine and really seeking for a logical answer.
The main goal of this post is that anyone actually provides a well structured answer for me to get rid of that doubt.
Here is a list of things christians said as attempt to answer that often doesn't make sense to me.
1-*"DO YOU BLAME DENTISTS FOR TOOTH PROBLEMS? SOME PEOPLE DELIBERATELY CHOSE NOT TO GO TO THE DENTIST" / "DO YOU BLAME CAR MANUFACTURERS FOR BAD DRIVERS?" *
This might genuinely be the *WORST* analogy to ever say, because if it removes one God's main attribute: his omnipotence.
The dentist, even if he wanted to, *CAN NOT* solve everyone's problem, or in the car scenario, the manufacturer can not prevent bad drivers from existing ; even if they wanted to. God could. He is omnipotent, literally builds the laws ruling the universe itself, and with the simple snap of his finger could rewrite humanity, as he did in Genesis for instance.
So either he does not want to intervene, therefore he is not all loving, or, as many christians say, he can't intervene allegedly because it would go against our own free will he gave us.
Let's attack this take.
First of all, saying such a thing means the huge majority of prayers religious people do won't ever work in the forst place, becaus they ALL inherently affect someone's free will and actions.
Secondly, Imagine that out there, out of all millions of doctors, there is this one named Carl who got the cure of cancer. But.... Carl could give it away, admit that he got it, and therefore save millions, Billions of lives! But Carl doesn't. "Why?" you might ask. I won't even answer that question because it doesn't matter. If this happened in real life, it wouldn't matter. Everyone's first instinct would just be to label Carl as cruel and would stick to that position. But let's just say that Carl want to see who would truly go to his cabinet, and also, he wants to respect our free will to seek any kind of medical assistance. Now, you probably see where I'm going. That's exactly the same justification religious people try to use.
This first argument is overall really bad and lacks objectivity.
2-*EVIL IS THE ONLY WAY FOR GOD TO SHOW US HIS GREATNESS AND HIS LOVE . LOVE INHERENTLY MEANS EVIL*
Guess who made that rule in the first place...
Guess who can rewrite them all at any time...
Why do people always formulate arguments as if there is some external force forcing God to do certain things? If he wants to, he can literally shape a system that does not revolve around hurt to show love.
I am a boy, and if I let my girlfriend get harassed and beaten up by other people just so that she can really see my love by noticing the difference of treatment she gets from others, that would be called abuse. Because...I fear it is...
I don't know what more to say about that argument. It just never even made sense to me..
3- *WHY ARE WE BLAMING GOD FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR OWN ACTIONS*
Who's actions are causing massive deadly earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis?
Secondly, this argument also never made sense to me because it is primarily backed-up with a double standard.
If a policeman lets you whole entire family get demolished by some guy even tho he could have stop that from happening, you would point him as one of the reason of this disaster's occurrence.
In every law system, there is a whole concept of "non-assistance to a vulnerable person" because, deep inside, we ALL see that as a crime.
4-*WE ARE JUST PAYING THE PRICE OF OUR FREE WILL. IT IS OUR FAULT IF WE SUFFER.*
This argument might look weak but to me, it is the one that makes the most sense because honestly, it is extremely true in a sense. Even non-religiously speaking, it is indeed true. Point blank. Most of the things we go throught nowedays are due to the actions and bad decisions of our ancestors that are still perpetuated to this day.
But there is something I don't understand....
One thing we for sure did not aggravate are some natural disasters, for example, earthquakes. I mean, WE CAN CREATED EARTHQUAKES, but they are non deadly and their magnitude are insignifiant.
The deadly one are simply due to the constitution of the earth, which was made by...
Same with cancer. We can increase the risk of getting cancer. This is a fact none of us can deny. But, the main reason cancer ewist in the first place is the huge amount of mistakes mitosis naturally makes due to the way that system was denied.
So I don't really know.
5-*ALL SUFFERING HAS A MEANING*
Some people end up ending their own lives due to the immense suffering they have to go throught all day everyday.
Mothers lose their children and spend their entire life grieving and spiraling in depression.
Kids all around the world die of malnutrition and poor life conditions.
People live in war zones, worring about their lives all day long.
Some people die in natural disasters every year..
Where... exactly...is the meaning, the poetry, the hidden sense, the lesson they can use later in life ?
This is often said by two types of people:
_The ones with perfect lives
_The ones who desperately try to cope.
I guess, let me know when you find what your kid dying of cancer and the immense grief you are going through are supposed to mean...
Objectively, the fact that we do not understand the meaning doesn't mean that it doesn't have one, BUT, if none of us can see meaning in big event like this, then what proof do we have that it has one in the first place.
Those are all the arguments I remember. Feel free to correct me or add anything logical.
I posted this is 2 different christian forums and got nothing credible as an answer. I've got big hopes here.
