Stargate in Australia
Who here is an Aussie who remembers what it was like to try and watch stargate on free to air TV in the 90s?
If I remember correctly, it was on channel 7, Wednesday nights, at 8.30pm
It stayed like that for years and years, slowly moving back timeslots until i was on at 10.30, which was too late for me as a kid.
By the time Atlantis started down here, they aired all of SG1 through season 10, and Atlantis was airing season 4 i think it was when SGU was starting in the states. It was also airing at like 1am or something insane if i remember correctly.
We also didn't get DVD releases right away. They always lagged behind the free to air release for what ever reason.
I got the Stargate DVD collection just to get the DVDs at a reasonable time because of how far behind the DVD releases were. And I remember getting the DVDs in that magazine for Atlantis before the Atlantis season packs dropped at EzyDVD i think it was called, on the gold coast.
That said, I also remember something really cool, and I am wondering how many people in here were in the room with me for this.
At Supanova Brisbane they aired Ark of Truth for the first time, anywhere, and a while before the DVD release. We put our phones in a tub to prevent recording, and sat in a small room, about 50-100 people fit in it, but the line to get in was insane. I waited hours to get good seats for that one. It even had a heap of people standing along the back wall to watch it.
I also remember the cheers and clapping it got at the end. Which isn't normal for Aussies to do for a movie. We watch in silence, we rarely cheer (for context even in avengers endgame in packed cinemas there wasn't a lot of cheering or clapping)
Anyway, now i feel old, i want to hear other peoples memories watching the early series. The limitations of their countries and stuff like that.
