Malenia had her first flight outside of the cage today! It was very apparent that she missed flying (as she was an aviary bird before), and she stayed out for a few hours, returning back by herself in the evening to sleep.

She's been doing great around us as well, not running away and accepting millet from our hands, but she is still unsure about us being too close. She did land on the couch next to us a few times, which we have not expected she would be comfortable doing on her first flight!

She has gotten a new cage, with toys and perches more suitable for her, and we have started working on transitioning her to pellets from her previous all seed diet. We did have great luck with vegetable chop, which she happily eats, and she loves apples for treats.

We will now work on installing some perches around the living room, as we realized she likes exploring around the house, but doesn't have enough places to land on while doing so, and I will also have to secure my pantry from her before I let her out again, as she already managed to discover where we keep both our and her food 😅

Hoping to get her on a consistent out-of-cage flying schedule by the next month, and I hope we will manage to get her to trust us enough to hang out with us one day, but we love her nonetheless.

First time out of the cage! (And new cage alert)
