The Audacity: A 7-mile Kroger order turned into a 136-mile nightmare
I got an offer from Kroger yesterday: pick up an order and drive it 7 miles for about $15. It was a really good offer, so I obviously took it, completely ignoring the red flag that they were ordering roses at 6:00 PM on Valentine's Day.
The customer actually had the gall to get mad at me because the store didn't have the exact color of roses they wanted. There was literally one dozen roses left on the shelf, but that wasn't good enough. On top of that, they wanted me to hand-write a long letter in the notes that said:
>"Despite the distance between us, that doesn't stop me from loving you with all my heart. I love you. Enjoy your meal. ❤️"
Then I get to the address she gave me, and it’s just a convenience store in Texas City. When I called her to confirm, she said, "Oh, it wouldn't let me put in the right address, so I just put that one in. The correct address is in the notes."
The correct address was in College Station. For those who don’t know Texas geography, that is 136 miles away. When I told her that, she told me that it was not her problem and that I should do it anyway because it was a Valentine's Day gift for her boyfriend.
I obviously didn’t do it. Since the order included alcohol, I got to mark it as undeliverable, and I actually got paid for the return trip to the store. Some people really think we’re running a charity.
