New to professional singing!
Hi everyone! I’ve been singing to myself since I was a little girl. I always had a little secret dream of singing professionally but knew it was unrealistic. I’m a teacher now and very happy in my profession, but I recently was accepted into a local vocal ensemble that mainly sings in Arabic (I’m Arab-American)! I’m very excited to be doing this as a hobby and also semi-professionally.
My question is, how can I prepare my voice best? I already have throat coat tea because I tend to get seasonal allergies so I’ll start incorporating that into my diet more. I also ordered Grether’s lozenges and Bromelain supplements to reduce inflammation. I have a chronic pain disorder which causes lots of inflammation in my body so I can imagine that won’t help with vocal health. Also, being a teacher to elementary students, I raise my voice A LOT (even when using a microphone) and become shrill sometimes which I know is negatively affecting my vocal cords. When my throat health is good, I sound great, but I also have times where my voice is not at its best due to sinuses (stuffy nose), throat dryness, and possibly inflammation. What is generally recommended in a case like mine? The ensemble I joined often has solo parts during performances so I want to more sure I’m ready for that, and Arabic songs are more vocally demanding in my experience.
Thanks 😊
