AITAH for loosing a years long friendship over politics?

hello everybody,

I have this very close friend from secondary school. We’ve been through everything together, met in year 7 and stayed close friends right until the end of sixth form. We’ve been through countless of different friend groups and have always stuck together. In honesty, we stayed together because we didn’t really have anyone else. When we were in a friend group, we would always hang out with different people within that group. We don’t have much in common and have completely different interests to each other but we have this type of teenage trauma bond.

Currently we are out of school and are both doing a gap year. We both have other friends that are staying home for a few years and we still hung out during this gap year. Now here is where i might be the Ahole, this friend started reposting INSANE stuff on instagram in support of Israel, Reform UK (practically UKs version of MAGA) and vague anti-LGBTQ+ posts (I am bi). I personally don’t support this and every time i go on instagram i see one of these reposts that make me loose respect in her. Therefore, i created more of a divide between us which was really obvious to our mutual friends and to her. I did start to purposefully ignore her texts and while we worked together it was pretty awkward. Now, i did also go to our mutual friends about this to get their perspective, some agreed with me, some didn’t care. I haven’t met up with her in a couple of months and really don’t notice a difference in my life, i don’t miss her or want to speak to her.

A few days ago a mutual friend texted in the friend group chat (there is four of us; me, her and two others) for the first time in months asking for all of us to meet up to ‘sort things out’. I don’t want to meet up, I didn’t think we had much in common and our personalities always clashed but i don’t want to be a twat and say that. The mutual friend also personally texted me saying we shouldn’t throw away years of friendship over ‘differences of opinions’. But her opinions are life shattering to people and i know for a fact she won’t change her mind (she’s been vaguely conservative since year 10). Also, the ‘sorting things out’ just reminds me SO MUCH of year 10-11, i cba to ‘sort things out’, i just want to live my life in PEACE.

So Reddit, AITA for breaking a years long friendship over politics?
