Odd bird on walk

North America

I saw a bird on a walk with my dogs today nd I cannot find anything on it for the life of me. It was this really big, plump bird (bigger than my 70 pound dog buddy) with all black/very dark grey feathers, except around its eyes, where it has a ring of lighter grey feathers.

It has bright white claws and legs as well. It was fairly short though, hunched over. This was in North America, in the Houston area, but since it’s so close to migration time, I don’t know how much that matters. I wish I had a picture, but I had left my phone at home and it had already flew away when I returned later in the hour. I’m sure it’s much harder to identify without a picture, so I get it if it can’t be identified, I would just appreciate a closer answer than google saying it’s a grackle 50 times.
