Potential recruits in a toxic lab

Another recruitment season is upon us. I am seeing so many excellent students with great potential trying to get into my lab. The truth is, working in the lab for the past 3 years has been a living hell. I have seen people in the group having the spark in their eyes go out. Many quit, some with mental health issues and trauma. Some moved on to be successful, happy, and able to graduate, which isn't common in the lab. I know this is selfish, but I hope none of these potential recruits end up where we are.
