Parent Skills

I'm a new player, I just started playing around a week and a half ago. I feel like I understand how to play the game a decent amount, but the one thing that I don't really understand are the skills. So when buying skills at the end of a career run, I understand that with your Ace the skills are going to be used in the race so you gotta pick for your style and track length. Plus other color skills if you have the extra money. But for the parents, I'm not really understanding it. I try to search it up, but instead of getting the info i'm looking for it always just ends up showing me stuff about blue/pink/white sparks that i feel i already have an okay understanding of. What kind of skills do you want your parent Umamusume to have.

This morning, I got a 3* power blue spark on Daiwa Scarlet. The skills I ended up buying were all the red/green/blue sparks and the general yellow skills. I'm trying to make a general legacy line with decent affinity with a good amount of umas, so I'm just wondering if the way I went about with my 3* power Diawa Scarlet was okay or if I just wasted a good legacy
