Is it ok for twins to fall asleep on breast if I wake them up after?

6 - 12 months

Twins are 8 months old; we had been feeding to sleep and are now trying to sleep train. They sleep in mini cribs in our bedroom. They drink pumped milk 9-5 on weekdays and nursed outside of that.

We started this routine a week ago in an attempt to sleep train:

6:20p-7pm: breastfeed one at a time but keep them awake

7-7:20: quiet time on mat, pajamas, sleep sacks and books

7:20-7:30: same two bedtime books with low lights, put in cribs awake

It’s actually gone really well and the girls are falling asleep on their own with minimal crying now. We dream feed at 1030 and Minimal night wakes outside that.

My only issue is - it’s really hard to keep them awake during the breastfeed. We keep lights on, play music, I have to make noises and tickle them etc. they really want to nod off. That’s what they’re used to!

Question - is it ok to let them sleep on the breast if we wake them up right after and keep the gap before bedtime?

I know we could move the feed earlier or bedtime earlier, but the former is logistically hard and the latter - I wouldn’t want them waking up earlier in the AM.
