I’m going to be real: early-stage growth is brutal when you don’t have money for ads.
I kept seeing people say “just run paid” or “build an audience first”… but I didn’t have either. I had a product, a tiny account, and a lot of cope.

So I tried something simple: manual outreach + genuine conversation, and it turned into my first “free growth spike”.

What I did (step-by-step)

1) I made a list of people already in my niche
Not huge influencers. Just creators and learners who actively post about Chinese/Mandarin, study routines, apps, etc.

2) I reached out like a human (no pitch)
I messaged a bunch of them with something specific I liked about their content and asked a real question.
No “hey check my app” energy. Just connection first.

3) One conversation actually clicked
We started talking normally. Over time they got curious about what I was building, so I mentioned:
“By the way, I’m building a Chinese learning app.”

4) I offered free access (not a discount, not a link spam)
I said: “If you want, I can give you free access. I’d love honest feedback.”
They said yes.

5) The creator genuinely loved it… and asked to post about it
A day later they hit me with:
“Your product is incredible. Can I make a post about it?”
I said: “Of course.”

The result (from ONE tweet)

In 2 days, that single tweet did:

• 50k+ impressions
• 2k+ likes
• 70+ new users on my Chinese app
• and a few hundred dollars generated

No ads. No “launch post”. No thread spam. Just one person in the niche sharing something they honestly liked.

Why I think this worked

• It didn’t feel like an ad, it felt like a genuine recommendation
• The creator already had trust with the exact audience I wanted
• I didn’t push a link everywhere, people who were curious clicked through the profile / searched it

What I’m doing next (repeatable version)

• Keep building relationships with niche creators
• Offer free access in exchange for honest feedback
• Let people share it only if they actually love it
• Track which creators bring high-retention users, not just traffic
