shortened: seeking advice for suicidal & depressed cousin with immigrant parents

hi, i’m really worried and anxious so i’m seeking advice for my f14 cousin. she’s been extremely depressed and suicidal for years now. we both come from asian immigrant families.

background info: she’s bi, alternative, loves gaming, & her christian parents are very judgmental on that. they don’t respect her privacy— they treat her like a child, sheltering her from the outside world. as a normal teenage girl, she ofc wants to just be left alone sometimes, but her parents continue to drop in every minute. they attempt to control and scrutinize every detail. basically they’re the normal guilt-tripping, victimizing typical asian immigrant parents. the constant fear-mongering & sheltering has made her extremely depressed and suicidal from a young age.

she tried to c0mmit two years ago by drinking bleach. her sister screamed when she saw her. rather than protecting and rushing towards her, her father covered the sisters’ eyes and glared at her while her sister was screaming “do something? do you even care about her?!?” her second attempt also failed. she was put in a mental hospital for a week & goes to therapy now. however, her parents are still not accepting theyre the cause of her depression.

they tell her things like “you’re the reason why our family is messed up,” “i’ll hate myself forever so you can be happy,” and “we feel depressed and want to die sometimes too” in response to her opening up to her parents. it breaks my heart bc she just wants them to listen & acknowledge her but theyre continue to victimize themselves. she lashes out bc she’s overstimulated. they blame her depression & suicidal idealogies on her hormones and that “she doesn’t pray enough.” rather than seeking fault from themselves they put it as a religion issue. and typically they haven’t told anyone abt this and keeps her depression, attempts, & therapy quiet bc to “save face” & maintain a good image as the perfect family.

i don’t know what to do— i was in a similar situation as her when i was younger (manipulative abusive parents, suicidal, depressed), but i’m currently escaping via college & avoiding visiting back home while working on financial freedom. she’s too young to work. i’m not sensitive anymore bc i’ve learned to be emotionless in my house. religion also helped me a lot mentally. but i know it won’t be the same for her bc of her trauma. & i’m lost on what to do. i talk to her parents abt loosening their grip, tell her that it’ll be okay, and i listen to her whenever she opens up to me. but i’m scared it’s not enough and she might actually die.

she genuinely has lost all hope to live & hope she passes before she’s 18. she’s genuinely so sweet, selfless, smart, emotionally sensitive, intelligent, and i see her having an amazing future & life if she gets through this. is there anything else i can do to support her? or anything i can tell her? all advice is appreciated. thank you.
