CHRONIC TE sufferers -- please share your stories
I have popped in and out of this community over the years. My very first "hair loss episode" was over a decade ago when I was going through a stressful period of my life, plus having some hormonal issues as I came off of birth control. It eventually grew back as I got my hormones re-regulated. At that time I thought it was a temporary, one time thing. My next experience with hair loss was post-partum with my first child (8 years ago). This made sense to me as postpartum hairloss is obviously a common phenomenon. Fast forward to present day, I've now had at least 8 or so episodes of what I have come to understand is CHRONIC telogen effluvium. 3 of them have been related to post-partum periods, and all of the other ones have seemingly "come out of nowhere" --but admittedly I have been on a rollarcoaster of stress for a while now. It's interesting because it had mostly been "good stress" like moving houses, big decision making, etc. but definitely stress nonetheless. I respond well to minoxidil and have been taking it for probably a year and a half now (I took it previously but stopped due to pregnancy). However, I've just entered another telogen effluvium episode, and I am OVER IT. It is very clear that this is a chronic problem for me, and that while minoxidil does help my hair grown in thicker and quicker, it's not preventative in the sense that it cannot stop telogen effluvium from happening to me. I am so tired of this. This past year has been stressful as we approach yet another life decision, but the hair loss came out of nowhere? I've been feeling the stress for 10 months ---so why the shedding now? I'm just frustrated and looking for others' experiences with this as a chronic condition. How did you get it under control? Is it even possible to get off this recurring rollercoaster? Clearly my body's go-to stress response is to shed hair, so I need to get a handle on this as I can't be constantly in a state of regrowth. My hair hasn't looked "normal" in so long. Even when it's growing in nice and thick, it still looks funny because the top is super thick and then the ends of weirdly stringy. Any other chronic TE sufferers, please weight in. I'm feeling beyond fed up..
