Freeze

Most of the time when I’m helping a student(mostly middle schoolers) they freeze up and have a hard time getting an easy answer (I’m talking an answer in front of them type deal) and I’m thinking it’s because they’re choking from being put on the spot in front of me. I’m a substitute so they don’t see me often. Is there something I can do so they’re not shutting down?
