Windows Update Horror - The never-ending search for updates
One of the most annoying things about Windows is updates. Keeping your PC and all software up to date is really annoying.
1. Windows Updates – I don’t understand how Windows, despite having automatic updates enabled and GPO level 5 configured, still doesn’t download updates automatically and only does so when you search manually.
2. Microsoft Store – Automatic updates are enabled here as well, but I’ve never experienced a single app being updated automatically. It only happens when I search manually, and even then I need 2–3 attempts until all updates are found.
3. Winget – The last option to update everything is winget, and this command finds updates that should actually also appear in the Microsoft Store.
Absolutely annoying.
I’ve also noticed that none of the steps above have any effect on Microsoft 365 apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. Even Edge has to be updated manually. Overall, I find this incredibly annoying and really hope for improvements in the future. One single winget command that updates everything would be my dream.
What are your observations on this?
