What RIR is normal?

Hi,

I'm training for about 2 years now and over my whole training I always had issues with progress. Dont get me wrong. I definitely made progress in that 2 years, but I thought it could be much more.

I watched a few videos in the last time and there was the topic of RIR. And what made me wonder is that RIR 0, so working until I cant move the weight anymore in the end of the set, isnt that normal? I thought I need to push every set until muscle failure?

The problem is that in the beginning my regeneration was really bad and I felt exhausted. I had a full body workout for 3 days in the week and I pushed every set to failure. Then I made adjustements and changed to a push/pull which I do 3 times in a week. I definitely felt better because the overall volume is lower now.

But I still make progress very slowly. There are times where I cant increase my reps or weight for months. When I do a rest week and get back to training, I feel so much stronger and fresh. I guess that is a sign that it still is too much?

The thing is I dont do a lot of sets on each day. My pull day is for example:

row, lat pull, hyper extension, curls, abs

Each exercise 3 sets until failure and 2-3 sets of warming up. I am usually in a rep range of 5-8.
