Advantages of mRNA vs Recombinant Flu Vaccines

There are a number of scientific reasons why the Moderna mRNA vaccine is superior to the recombinant flu vaccine FluBlok.

The Moderna vaccine is delivered as part of an LNP nanoparticle. These nanoparticles are taken up by host cells and are co-presented by those cells with MHC class 1 to CD8+ cytotoxic T cells for long term immune memory (and antibody production through co-presentation to MHC class 2) which recombinant vaccines cannot accomplish. The lipid nanoparticles act as built-in adjuvant and do not require an adjuvant as required by recombinant vaccines. Finally mRNA vaccines (010) induce faster and more functional maturation of antibody response than recombinant flu vaccines.
