I couldn't really think of a way to fit this into a standard meme format, but I really wanted to share this with everyone.

"Love me for who I am" by Ei Tozaki

This is a manga I recently read and I think (for Japan's standards) it's pretty good at representing the lgbtq+ community as a whole. It's story follows an initially femboy maid cafe (the translation I read used the word girlyboy), that later becomes basically a queer cafe in order to make their workers feel welcome, regardless of how they identify. It's not just focused on one identity, instead it shows a little bit of what everyone often goes through.

**Tw. It can be difficult to read, since there are depictions of gender dysphoria and self harm.**

I think it's worth a read, since unlike other pieces of media, where the representation is at best just a passing piece of dialogue, this one actually focuses on lgbtq+ identities directly - starting from a point of just feelings without the vocabulary to describe them.

There were still some parts I didn't like. For example how the character design is seemingly heteronormative (one non-binary character presents like a girl and has a cis guy partner or two gay guys where one crossdresses and acts like a girl in order to avoid societal backlash for being gay) and a part where an adult lesbian woman was flirting a couple times with minor (i think 16 years old, but I'm not sure). Despite that, I think it's pretty progressive for japan, since their culture is very conservative, often not even allowing individuality of cis-het people, let alone queer people.
