[Online][5E 2024][Other] New long-term homebrew campaign on Thursday evenings. 11:30PM EST.

Player(s) wanted

This game will be played relatively late starting at 11:30 PM EST every Thursday. If you don't think you can comfortably make the time please reconsider. The game will not start until around March 5th.

For fifteen years Frax's scars grew, its roads swallowed by forest and towers split by creeping vines. While the world rebuilt after the Shroud War, the island lay abandoned.

Now, in 387 YD, the Murandy Parliament has passed The Reclamation Act. Frax is to be resettled.

Passably scouted has been done and it is known to be fertile with vast ruins, but it is far from empty. Many factions claim its destroyed cities, or roam its dark forests. Be that beasts, cults, or something more evil

You are among those chosen or those who volunteered to reclaim Frax. You will clear the local oposition via negotiation or with fighting. You will establish outposts and grow it's infrastructure. At the least you will help decided what kind of Colony the new Frax becomes.

  • Perhaps you are a noble from a fading house. Seeking land, influence, or renown.
  • Perhaps you are a refugee of the Shroud War, hoping to build a new home.
  • Perhaps you are a native of Frax, returning home.

Your origin matters little; a ship waits in the harbor. Supplies are loaded and the strait looms on the horizon. Tommorow morning you are headed to Frax, ready to do whatever must be done.

Background: The people of Frax simply wanted independence from the rule of Murandy. What they got was far more than that. After three years of global conflict, Frax “disappeared”; the entire island vanished from sight. Naval vessels from surrounding nations discovered a "Shroud" around the area where the island had been, impenetrable to ships or spells.

Just a fortnight later, creatures called Wraiths began pouring out of the Shroud. They appeared across the world, but were concentrated around Frax. In response, the nations of Aurelia formed the Armistice of Light, uniting their forces to fight this new threat. In the end, the Wraiths were driven back, the Shroud lifted, and Frax reappeared, though desolated and off-limits.

The nations of the world are at various stages of progress. Murandy society is pushing into an early–industrial age, with rudimentary trains connecting major cities. Most kingdoms remain firmly at a late-medieval level. Magic exists, but it is not commonplace enough to replace industry. Roughly one in a hundred people can wield some form of arcane or divine power, and only a fraction of those ever go beyond basic competence. Minor enchanted items improve everyday life for those who can afford them. Truly powerful magic is very rare and often reserved for legend to the common man. Every race found in official D&D and more can be found somewhere in the world.

The tone of the game is generally “noblebright.” There is darkness in the world, but heroic action can meaningfully improve lives, reshape nations, and push back the shadows. While tragedy and hardship exist, the world is typically more hopeful than not.

Format: The game will be played through Discord and Roll 20.

System: We will be using the 2024 rules for the most part, with some houserules and a things like 2014 subclasses. Homebrew is often fine as well.

Playstyle: I hope to have a good mix of rp/exploration/combat. By exploration I mean hex-crawl. You will have to venture around the island mapping it and finding "leads" as you go. It will not be gritty to the point of a "survival" game though. I also enjoy exploring characters so one-note or joke characters are discouraged.

Time: Thursdays at 11:30 pm Est, starting March 5th.

Caveat: Before the actual campaign begins, so either on the 26th or the 5th itself, I am interested in running a prequel one-shot using the 10 Candles system. This session would take place during the catastrophe on Frax itself. 10 Candles is a ttrpg system where everyone knows their character is doomed from the start. You’ll play the final hours of people caught in the disaster, be that nobles, villagers, soldiers, or whoever else. I am willing to run this in 5e but am interested in trying the system. If a majority of the group is uninterested I will reconsider.

Application: If you are still interested please fill out this application. I will contact you on discord for a short voice chat if I am interested in your form.
