UofM EECS student: made an app that forces me to study 281 before I scroll
Hey r/uofm, I’m Caleb, a CS student at Michigan. Having both struggled through the CS weeders and lost battles to TikTok in the UGLI, I built an iOS app that literally won’t let me doomscroll until I study.
You pick distracting apps, and when you hit your usage interval (say every 5 minutes), TakeTime blocks them until you complete a quick mini-article + one exam style question on whatever class you're studying for.
I preloaded some UofM EECS content:
- EECS 203
- EECS 280
- EECS 281
- EECS 376
And the main feature I’m excited about: even if you're not in one of those classes, anyone can create their own course and upload lecture slides/PDFs and an LLM will generate mini-articles + questions from them.
I’m offering it free for now because I want real feedback / beta testers (eventually I’ll have to charge for heavy uploading/LLM processing to cover costs, but not yet
Only works on iOS 26 right now (DM me if you're on iOS 18 and want to help me debug lol)
If you’re down to try it, I’d love feedback on:
- whether the study articles feel helpful
- what features would make it actually stick for a semester
