Wuthering Heights is so unnecessarily dark, and I'm not talking about the plot.
I've never read the book, but had a vague idea of what the plot was, though the trailers made the movie look incredible and I was really excited to see it, but so much of it was just... bizarre. The set design, while interesting, was just so distractingly out there it made it look.a bit like a pretentious arthouse project. Not just that though, the majority of the lighting was just awful. I'm all for natural lighting in movies, but the majority of my viewing experience I found myself squinting to try and figure out what was even going on on screen.
One scene in particular has Cathy run out into the yard at night. Now sure, you'd expect darkness, but you could see nothing but a very vague outline of Cathy's body. No facial expressions, nothing.
The whole experience had me leaving the cinema incredibly disappointed.
