Is a DAC/Amp necessary for my 48ohm 990 Pro X?
Hey guys - I’ve been searching the sub front to back to get a clear answer but the more I look the more confused I’m getting.
I bought a pair of 990 pro X’s to play Arc Raiders at the recommendation of the sales associate at MicroCenter and I love them. They are currently being driven by my motherboard. The audio quality is so good that I can’t believed I played that game on anything else.
I changed my Spotify settings to lossless and I feel like I’m hearing old songs like new again. When i went to read everything online about the headphones, I kept reading about how a DAC/amp is really needed to full utilize them. A little digging deeper and it seems that’s the case for the 80 or 250 ohm versions, but the 48ohm apparently not.
However, an even DEEPER DIVE suggested to me that even with a 48ohm version, a dac/amp will be better because I am relying on a motherboard to DAC and amp today and with a dedicated device it will be much better.
All that being said, does anyone have a recommendation for an affordable dac/amp I can use where if I plug it in I WILL actually notice a difference? Main use will be video games/shooters (that’s where want to notice the improvement in audio), but I will also be casually listening to music while I work.
Thanks in advance for the help. These headphones are awesome
