Recycled Music in Toy Story

A detail about the last two Toy Story films no one seems to notice is the fact that a lot of Randy Newman’s music got reused. Re-recorded to be exactly match the temp music used in post. It repurposes the original context of the scenes they were synchronized with as it is trying to evoke nostalgia from those who had watched the previous two.

I do wish Newman was given more freedom to write more original music specially made for 3 and 4 to stand out on their own.

There are a few pieces in 3 that are completely new for the film that I enjoy.

However, do you happen to notice this detail? It’s a problem I also have with the Star Wars sequel trilogy movies. Plugging in familiar music that ends up cheapening or taking away its original context.
