Question about very shy gecko

I have a crested gecko that is 6 months and is very skittish. And I wanna handle it, so it can get used to me. I read users saying I should dim the lights, so it can feel calm and come out of the foliage. It does come out, but the moment I open the enclosure or see me/my hand, it jumps back into the foliage. I tried also having food on my finger, so it could smell it, but 0 succes. And I don't wanna try and catch it and make it scared. Please help me!!!! What should I do?
