A little rant

Is anyone else feeling ugh about the wedding not industry but the whole tradition of weddings since planning? I read post after post ( not here but lots of places) about all the drama surrounding planning. Problems with their mums, problems with their bridal party, problems with this and that. Yet most of us still feel the need to follow the traditions that lead to all these problems? It’s 2026 why are we still hung up on traditions from the 1800s. Brides family have to pay for this, grooms family have to pay for that, MOH has to do this.

I am so so glad we are doing things differently. Planning has been enjoyable and not at all stressful. We chose to elope with our dogs and while yes I’m a little sad I don’t get to plan the little details of a big wedding as I love planning but it’s just been such smooth sailing. We are paying for everything ourselves ( and would have if we decided on a big wedding). Our families have been amazing and are not upset we are eloping. Like the day is about you and your partner , it shouldn’t be about anyone else.

Since we are not having a big wedding I am going all out on my hens night and it has been so fun to plan. Again I’m paying for it all myself and I hate the tradition of “ well your MOH should be doing it”

I could never imagine hosting an event and then expecting people to pay to attend. Again with the old the silly traditions of “ that’s just how it is “ no it doesn’t have to be. Stop letting your overbearing parents pay for your wedding and then complain they want a say. Just pay for it yourself! Have the wedding you can afford why are we inviting this drama to what is supposed to be the happiest day of your life!
