Anyone with Experience Moving to Milwaukee from the Southern US?
Hello all,
I am a 34 y/o bachelor (with a dog!) finishing up a training program and have subsequently been offered what is essentially the same overarching job in one of either Milwaukee, WI or Charleston, SC. Obviously, the details of the jobs themselves vary but they essentially pay the same and are relevant to my field of study. I will also say that I am fortunate in that as a 30-something with no kids/spouse and who would probably be renting for a few years initially, my compensation is such that I could probably live almost anywhere “cool” in either city (maybe not a mansion on the beach, but you get it) which I guess would be Downtown/Bay View/Third Ward/Wauwatosa for Milwaukee? Curious to hear your thoughts there.
I have visited both cities (and briefly lived in a Milwaukee suburb for about two years) and feel as though they are two very different experiences… though I would say on the whole that I “like” both of them for their own reasons and that they both have something to offer to someone like me who is not necessarily interested in settling down for the long-term. I will also say that most of my family is located in the Midwest within a few hours of Milwaukee which is its own “perk” in a way.
I'm curious if anyone from the South or who has spent a considerable amount of time there could speak to their experience living in Milwaukee? What was a change? What did you like vs not about each place? Bonus points of course if you are familiar with Charleston/the Carolinas. Obviously, I have to weigh the pros and cons of each place for my own life but anyone with anecdotal experience, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
