Canadian considering Sonoran MS Applied Clinical Nutrition (CNS) — realistic career/income without RD?
I originally planned to become a Registered Dietitian (RD), but I don’t have a bachelor’s in dietetics/nutrition. From what I can tell, UBC’s Master of Nutrition & Dietetics (MND) is the only Canadian option that can lead to RD eligibility, but it’s very competitive, and the next intake I’m seeing is Fall 2027.
Because of that, I’m looking at Sonoran University’s Master of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition (CNS track). I’m worried about how it translates to jobs in Canada (since “nutritionist” isn’t regulated the same way everywhere and RD is the standard in many settings).
Questions:
-
For grads: what did you do right after the program? Job titles + settings (clinic, private practice, corporate wellness, telehealth, research, etc.) I'm mainly planning to work virtually.
-
How do employers and clients view Sonoran + CNS?
-
If you’re Canadian: were you able to work in Canada with it? Any licensing/regulation barriers?
-
What’s a realistic income range (first year vs 3–5 years in)?
-
Overall: would you say it’s worth the cost, or would you wait for an RD program / take a different path? Any suggestions for a different Master's in Canada after science?
