There were many discussions whether Gus is from Chile, so let's try something else

This is, do you think that if we assume that Gus is actually from Chile, even if obviously Gustavo Fring isn't his real name, did he have criminal activity prior to arriving in the USA? Or perhaps he was actually some sort of political opponent of the regime at the time? Or maybe both? I know we have little clues so you're welcome to brainstorm.
