Landlord to 73 year olds-business related
I’m a business owner. One of my tenants is 73, seems smart. He has an assistant who is also 73. She wants to be smart, but that seems limited to what she already knows.
Both are declining. I met them both about 6 months ago when their lease started.
They both answer calls that are obvious scammers. I hear them, because they are on speakerphone always. They both speak slowly and sound their age. Scammers have them going in circles.
We have an open office concept. They can hear me, I can hear them. We run very different businesses.
I don’t feel like it’s my place to step in and protect them. I also feel like someone has to.
The woman just called a number telling someone she should have a zero balance because it’s paid, and when the person on the other end said it’s paid, she kept going, telling him that she tried calling the number in the email, and it doesn’t go through.
This is a daily repeat. She answers all the scam calls and tells them to stop calling. She waits for them to agree, and gets frustrated when they keep talking.
I don’t get paid enough to be their elder care person. They pay me rent. I want to be cordial, but I don’t want them to lean on me for support like this.
My personal sense says to help.
My business sense says to stay out of it.
