Looking to purchase my first dashcam
Hey y'all, so long story short, I was involved in a hit-and-run at the end of 2025, and now I'm in the market for a dashcam having never owned one before (a day late and a dollar short). I'm a total noob and I apologize in advance for my ignorance on the subject. I'm willing to pay for a high-end brand and model. It seems like a VIOFRO model is the most popular suggestion, but I'm somewhat concerned about the size of the VIOFRO cameras and the amount of real estate they take up on the windshield.
My list of preferences (might be an unattainable unicorn):
- A high-quality camera with good night capabilities.
- I would like to have a cabin camera (or at least a reversible cabin-capable dash camera, if such a thing exists).
- A dashcam with a smallish footprint on the windshield.
- I live in Texas, so it gets very hot in parked vehicles during the summers. I see overheating can be a problem. So, I could use a camera that is less likely to overheat.
As a side note, I'm interested in hardwiring the camera to the car. Would y'all suggest doing so?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations. Also, I'm happy to answer any inquiries that might help refine the search.
